Installer les VMWare tools pour Linux Ubuntu Server

Comment installer en 6 étapes les VMWare tools pour Ubuntu Serveur

vmwareAprès une montée de version de ma plateforme VMWare ESXi, j’ai du refaire l’installation des outils VMWare plus connus sous le nom de VMWare Tools.

Une rapide recherche sur google et sur le site de VMWare me proposent des solutions plus ou moins pénible à mettre en œuvre et qui ne me conviennent pas du tout.

La solution que je propose en six étapes:

Etape 1: On se connect sur Vsphere, on vérifie que les outils ne soient pas activés ou installés.

Etape N°2 : On monte l’image des tools via le menu suivant dans Vsphere.

Etape N°3 : On se connecte sur la VM désirée (ici VMubuntutest01), on monte l’image via le cdrom virtuel et on fait une copie des tools dans le répertoire TMP. Bien entendu, on a pris soin de vérifer que les paquets build-essentials sont présents et installés sur le serveur.

Ensuite, on monte le CDROM 🙂 et on lance une copie vers /tmp

Etape N°5 : On décompresse le fichier dans /tmp et on lance l’installation des tools.

Etape N°6 : L’installation s’est faite sans aucun message d’erreur et on peut voir dans la console Vsphere l’installation des tools…

Pour finir, un reboot du serveur est vraiment souhaitable mais attention si on est en production 🙂
